Charlton Athletic boss: Brentford now on a par with Leeds United in terms of quality
Lee Bowyer is under no illusions about the size of the challenge facing his Charlton Athletic side tomorrow as they head to red-hot Brentford.
The Addicks boss predicted Leeds United to finish top of the Championship before the campaign started in August.
And Bowyer feels that the Bees – who have won their last five games without conceding – are now on a par with Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
Conor Gallagher grabbed the only goal of the game when the two sides met in August at The Valley.
Bowyer went to watch Brentford on Saturday as they won 3-0 against Wigan Athletic. Thomas Frank’s side have scored 14 goals in their last five fixtures and are chasing West Bromwich Albion for the second automatic promotion spot.
“They are a very, very good side,” said Bowyer. “I would now put them up there alongside Leeds.
“I went to the Wigan game to watch them live and they are very good – their movement is very good, they are very clinical and in the final third they have got people who can hurt you left, right and centre.
“The front three and midfield two can hurt you every time they go forward, they looked like they would score every time they went forward.
“They move the ball well and because they have so much possession they don’t give many chances away. You can see why they are pushing for the top two spaces. It’s going to be a tough game for us.
“Off the bench they are strong. They brought [Josh] Da Silva on, who is very good. They freshen it up well. The quality of player they are bringing off the bench is still very high. We’re going to have to be at it tomorrow, for sure.”
