Doncaster Rovers 2 AFC Wimbledon 0 – Dons comfortably beaten in Yorkshire

BY DAVE HUNT-JACKSON

AFC Wimbledon slumped to another League One defeat as they were comfortably beaten 2-0 by high-flying Doncaster.

Rovers looked every bit like a side pushing for at least a play-off place and their slick passing caused their visitors problems from the off.

It was no surprise when they grabbed the lead. A loose ball broke for Fehjiri Okenabirhie and he drilled a low shot past Sam Walker (pictured) from 25 yards out.

The Dons responded well to the setback, showing that they too can move the ball around but without finding anything to really threaten Rovers.

Doncaster soon weathered the storm and after Brad Halliday had smashed a drive against Walker’s crossbar the keeper was beaten again as a cruel deflection left him helpless as Taylor Richard’s doubled the Yorkshire side’s lead.

Wimbledon showed no lack of effort or intent in the second half with substitute George Dobson making a real difference and almost halving the deficit only to be denied by the post.

The South Londoners spent most of the second period in Rovers half but for all their efforts could not muster another meaningful chance as their hosts easily held on for a deserved victory.
