Football fans on the march from Wimbledon to Millwall in fight against prostate cancer

South London football fans united for an epic marathon march in London on Sunday, as Prostate Cancer UK’s 2022 Football March concluded in the capital.

The leading men’s health charity visited football hotbeds and iconic venues across the nation and welcomed 89 fans on the 26.2-mile walk across London.

Walkers had kicked off the event in Greater Manchester on Thursday, and moved to the South Coast a day later, and the West Midlands on Saturday.

On Sunday, supporters marched from AFC Wimbledon’s Cherry Red Records Stadium to The Den, home of Millwall FC – a long-time charity partner and the first club to wear the Prostate Cancer UK logo on their shirts, in 2013/14.

The marchers also stopped off at Premier League duo Brentford and Fulham, as well as another of the charity’s partner clubs, Queens Park Rangers, along the way.

The group was led by inspirational Wimbledon supporter Kevin Webber, who marched each of the four days, once again defying his advanced prostate cancer diagnosis.

A scenic afternoon took the walkers along the River Thames and across Lambeth Bridge, in the shadow of Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament and past the London Eye before an emotional finale at Millwall.

The event has raised more than £86,300 to date and you can donate and help beat prostate cancer at https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/footballmarch2022

Prostate cancer affects one in eight men in the UK. Money raised will help fund lifesaving research into earlier prostate cancer diagnosis, better treatment and essential support services.

Since 2016, more than 2,000 football fans, supporters and personalities have marched across the UK for Prostate Cancer UK, visiting more than 100 clubs and raising in excess of £1.6m.

Kevin, who has raised close to £1m for the charity since 2014, said: “As a man with incurable prostate cancer I know first-hand what this disease can do to families and loved ones, and I’m forever grateful for everyone that took on these marches.

“Your support will help achieve long-term ambitions of a better test and a screening programme, so that hopefully my boys will not have to go through what I have.”
