Residents aged 60 and over who aren’t having lunch with anyone on Christmas Day are invited to join the festive cheer and meet new people at a big lunch bash on the big day.

But you have to get a move on with applying to attend. The deadline is midnight tonight (Thursday).

Hammersmith and Fulham council throws a Christmas Day lunch party for residents every year, and this year is expecting up to 250 guests at the Novotel West London.

On top of a hearty Christmas lunch, guests will each receive a goody bag, and enjoy live entertainment, music and dancing.

Door-to-door transport, qualified carers and a team of volunteers will ensure all guests are well looked after.

Some residents from local veterans’ housing charity, Stoll, attended last year’s Christmas lunch and are looking forward to returning.

“We would just like to thank all the wonderful people who came and collected our residents at Stoll Mansions at Fulham.

They had the most amazing day,” said Tara Farrell, Stoll Independent Living Support Worker.

The event on December 25 is from 11am-3pm. Doors open 10am.

Meanwhile, the Kensington Bupa Care Home in Kensington is also opening its doors to elderly people in the community who face Christmas Day alone.

The home is working with Re-engage – formerly Contact the Elderly – a charity that aims to alleviate loneliness and social isolation among over 75s.

It has a Christmas campaign called Community Christmas which aims to bring back the spirit of Christmas, ensuring that no older person in the UK spends Christmas alone.

The Kensington, in Ladbroke Road, Notting Hill, will offer – for free – a traditional roast dinner, festive games and entertainment, plus company from staff and residents at the home.

General manager, Adam Tallis, said: “We know loneliness is a growing issue for elderly people – at Christmas and all year round.

“It’s our third year hosting a Community Christmas event and we’re pleased to be able to support Community Christmas by opening our doors on Christmas Day to offer older members of our community somewhere they can enjoy a traditional Christmas dinner with all the trimmings and some festive fun in the company of others.

“I know our residents are looking forward to welcoming some new faces to the table on Christmas Day.”
