Jonny Williams excited at linking up with boss who get out best out of him – with chance former Charlton man can extend Cardiff stay
Jonny Williams has admitted the lure of working with Mick McCarthy again was too much to resist – with the Charlton fans’ favourite a transfer deadline day mover.
The 27-year-old joined Cardiff City earlier this week in a deal which netted the Addicks a six-figure sum.
Welsh media have reported that it is a short-term contract until the summer, when Williams’ SE7 terms were also due to expire, with an option to extend.
It means another crack at Championship football for the Wales international, who McCarthy twice took on loan from Crystal Palace when he was in charge of Ipswich.
The Yorkshireman recently replaced Neil Harris in the Cardiff hotseat.
Williams said: “I’m really looking forward to working with the gaffer and TC [Terry Connor]. They are great, I probably played my best football under them at Ipswich. They gave me the belief and freedom to express myself.
“There are a lot of games coming up and my main aim is to try and get this team up the table. I’ll work hard and we’ll see at the end of the season where we are.
“It’s a great opportunity for me in my career. Hopefully I score some goals and get assists. I’m here to win as many games as I can in a Cardiff shirt.”
Williams made 66 appearances for Charlton after initially arriving in the January 2019 window.
