Lewisham’s Eddie Nketiah adds to record goal haul for England U21s

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Eddie Nketiah scored twice for England U21s on Tuesday night – the Lewisham-born striker adding to his record haul on the international stage.

The 21-year-old Arsenal striker usurped Alan Shearer for most goals at U21 level in October.

And Nketiah took his tally to 16 in 14 matches as he helped himself to a double in a 5-0 victory over Albania in his country’s final European Championship qualifier. The young frontman also missed a penalty and had an effort disallowed for offside at Wolves’ Molineux stadium.

Chelsea’s Wandsworth-born winger Callum Hudson-Odoi had put Aidy Boothroyd’s Three Lions in front after just four minutes.

England had already qualified for the 2021 finals, which will be held in Hungary and Slovenia. The group stage will be in March and the finals in June.
