New vaccination centre opened in Wimbledon shopping centre

By Tara O’Connor, Local Democracy Reporter

A new coronavirus vaccination centre has opened at the Centre Court shopping centre in Wimbledon.

It has been set up in the upper mall of the shopping centre in the former Gap store.

Dr Vasa Gnanapragasam, GP Borough Lead for Merton, said: “Vaccinations are being done in locations across south west London, they are safe and effective and I would ask anyone who has any questions or concerns to talk to their GP or find out the vaccine facts online at NHS.UK.”

The centre will operate by appointment only and attendees are asked not to arrive early so queues don’t build up.

Centre manager, Simon Plumb, said: “We’re pleased and proud to offer a complimentary space to the NHS as part of their vaccination programme. As a centre in the heart of Wimbledon, we look to serve the community in every way possible and there is nothing more important at this time than providing a safe environment to assist the vaccination effort, enabling the reopening of society.”

Those over 50 and can now book in for a vaccination by calling 119 or at www.nhs.uk.

The vaccination is also being offered to those deemed clinically vulnerable, care home workers and residents, those with learning disabilities, carers and health and social care workers.
