St George’s hospital reports 24 new Covid deaths in the last week

Another 24 deaths from coronavirus have been announced at St George’s Hospital in Tooting.
Yesterday the NHS announced 239 more deaths across the capital, making it one of the worst days of the pandemic so far.
At St George’s Hospital, the NHS announced 24 deaths between January 15 and January 19.
On January 17 alone, tragically 14 deaths were recorded at the Trust.
According to the latest figures, 355 patients are being treated for coronavirus at St George’s Hospital.
This includes 82 Covid-19 positive patients in intensive care and 273 Covid-19 positive patients being cared for on the wards.
Sadly 560 patients have died and tested positive for coronavirus since March 2020.
A statement on the Trust’s website says: “Our thoughts are with the families of the patients affected – and, in all cases, we would ask that their privacy is respected at this time.”
In Wandsworth borough there have been 320 deaths since March 2020 and 18,314 confirmed cases of the virus.
In the last week, 25 residents in the borough have died after testing positive for the virus.
In the seven days to January 15, the case rate stands at 562.1 cases per 100,000 people.
This is extremely high, but has been falling since a peak of 847.8 cases per 100,000 in the seven days to January 4.
