Sunderland defender gives no credit to Charlton for halting their 14-game unbeaten run

Luke O’Nien felt Sunderland paid the price for not doing the “basics right” in yesterday’s 2-1 loss to Charlton Athletic.

The Addicks boosted their play-off hopes as they halted the home side’s 14-game unbeaten run – 12 of those in League One.

But O’Nien decided not to give any credit to Nigel Adkins’ side for the way they performed at the Stadium of Light.

He told Sunderland’s official website: “They didn’t win the game…I felt we lost it ourselves. We conceded from a set-piece, when we have been so good, and missed a few chances as well.

“We just didn’t quite get the basics right, which cost us.

“We’ve been on a really good run of form, I don’t think we need to panic. It’s important we go back to the drawing board, watch that game back and go on another good run to finish the season.

“It’s been a great run, everyone has enjoyed it. We’re all disappointed we didn’t get the three points but you can’t get them all. It’s important we go away, reflect and try to win all three of the away games coming up.”
