Virtual climate action event kicks off at South Bank University

The London South Bank University (LSBU) kicked off their sustainability and climate action event series this morning, with a guest speaker from the Southwark market, Mercato Metropolitano.

The final instalment of the Universities climate event will take place virtually over three days, from January 13-15, via Zoom.

Amedeo Claris, Managing Director for Mercato Metropolitano, launched the event with a discussion on how London’s first sustainable and inclusive food market, based in Newington Causeway, created a movement to re-balance the relationship between artisan producers and consumers.

The event will also include speakers From LSBU’s own experts, to an array of external guests from a range of backgrounds and professions.

Themes of Food, Water, Politics and Equality will be explored along with a broad selection of topics that fall under these.

Parts one and two of the event series saw several hundred people sign in from across the globe.

A spokesperson for LSBU said: “Our Sustainability & Climate Action conference is the third of a series of events we’ve organised to discuss how we can tackle climate change and live healthier, more sustainable lives. This event focuses on equality, food, water & politics and links to Covid-19 and climate change.

“LSBU is taking a local and international lead to clean our environment and live more sustainably. We’re cutting our carbon emissions to zero by 2050, reducing water use, energy consumption and food waste and our world-first research project, GreenSCIES, is developing new ways to provide power and heat to thousands of homes across the UK.”
