Jed Wallace still an injury doubt for Millwall – as quad injury taking time to clear up

Jed Wallace remains a doubt for Millwall’s matches over the Christmas period, with manager Gary Rowett revealing the attacker’s quad injury is taking longer than expected to clear up.

The Lions had their home game on Saturday postponed due to a Covid-19 outbreak.

Midfielder George Saville, who had been troubled by a back injury, did train yesterday.

“Connor [Mahoney] did a little bit of modified training but he is not back in training fully yet,” said Rowett. “We’ve had a couple of players that have got cases at home that haven’t come in but if they PCR test negative then there is a chance they might be able to come back in.

“Jed is still out with a quad strain. That’s more or less where we are. We’ve got some first-team starters that have got Covid, so it’s just assessing those. I’m loathe to namecheck everyone who has got it because that wouldn’t be ideal for us.

“We haven’t actually got a massive amount of injuries. We’ve only got Dan Ballard, Lenny [Ryan Leonard] and Jed, there is no-one else that is sat in the treatment room not coming out for a while. Most of our issues are Covid-related.”

Asked if Wallace could be involved in the festive matches, Rowett said: “On the basis of his injury we’d have hoped he had a chance of featuring. But, in terms of his progress, he’s not progressing as quickly as we’d like.

“That’s one we’ll have to assess. You have to be careful with a quad strain, how quickly we bring him back. I’d imagine Boxing Day he would be a doubt. And if he’s a doubt for Boxing Day then he’s clearly going to be a doubt for the 29th.

“There’s a chance he might miss both games but there’s also a chance he might recover in time. We’ve still got a little bit of time.”
