Help the homeless this Christmas

This Christmas, hundreds of thousands of households will be facing the hardship and indignity of homelessness.

Many will be stranded in hostels, nightly paid B&Bs, or substandard temporary accommodation, not knowing what the future holds.

Thousands of children will be spending the festive period without somewhere to call home, while others will be wondering how they will make it through another winter living on the streets.

This is the brutal and inescapable reality facing people in Britain today.

But it does not need to be this way.

As Christmas approaches, national homelessness charity Crisis will once again be opening hotels and day centres in London to support people experiencing the worst forms of homelessness.

Combined with its year-round services across Great Britain, Crisis will be there for the more than 7,000 people without a home, providing companionship, food and vital support at one of the toughest times of the year.

We can, and must, do more to support people at risk or experiencing homelessness.

No one should have to endure the inhumanity that homelessness brings. So, this Christmas, just as they have for over 50 years, Crisis will be there to support people as they start to rebuild their lives and leave homelessness behind for good.

But it is only through the generosity of the South London public that Crisis can provide this vital and life-changing support.
