Four led to safety after blaze in shop below them

London Fire Brigade say they believe a fire at the rear of a shop was deliberately started – putting flats above it in potential jeopardy.

Four fire engines and about 25 firefighters tackled the blaze in Beckenham Lane, Bromley shortly after midnight in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

A large amount of rubbish at the rear of the property was destroyed by fire, and the ground floor was partially damaged by the blaze.

Four adults were led to safety by firefighters from the first-floor balcony, assisted by a short extension ladder. There were no injuries.

The brigade was called at around 12.20am and the fire was under control by 1.30am. Crews from Bromley, Beckenham and Woodside fire stations attended to tackle the blaze.
