Charlton Athletic man reveals who takes all the credit for Chelsea man’s Valley arrival

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Charlton assistant manager Johnnie Jackson says all the credit for bringing Conor Gallagher to the club has to go to head of recruitment Steve Gallen.

The Chelsea midfielder has featured in every single Championship match this season, scoring three goals and also bagging two assists.

Jackson, talking to Not The Top 20 Podcast, said: “Gallen is unreal. We have got no chief executive in place and no chief scout. So our head of recruitment is dealing with contract negotiations with clubs as well. He’s really stepped up.

“We see players through the year and highlight ones we like. But Steve comes to us with players that we’re not even aware of, take Connor Gallagher for example.

“He has never played league football before, he has only played for England youth teams and has come through Chelsea’s academy. He wasn’t a player I was aware of and Lee wasn’t either.

“We have to take a bit of a leap of faith and trust Gallen’s instincts as well, because he gets more right than he gets wrong.”
