Millwall boss Adam Barrett: “At 2-0 up away from home in this division you have to see that game out”

Adam Barrett was left shell-shocked as Millwall conceded three times in the final six minutes to lose 3-2 at Brentford in is second game as caretaker manager.

Tom Bradshaw continued his purple patch on the stroke of half-time to put the Lions in front before Jed Wallace slammed home a penalty to double their advantage and put Millwall on course for their first Championship away victory of the campaign.

But substitutes Josh Dasilva and Bryan Mbeumo struck before Ollie Watkins made up for his earlier penalty miss to convert a stoppage-time winner for the Bees.

“I couldn’t believe it, to be honest,” Barrett said. “I thought at 2-0 at that time in the game we looked very comfortable, they’d almost run out of ideas.

“The first goal was crucial and I’m very disappointed with that because it’s from a throw-in. the set-up wasn’t quite right and we allowed the shot. That changes the whole momentum of the game and gave them belief.

“The second shot was a wicked deflection that loops in and their tales are really up then. It’s extremely disappointing we didn’t see the game out. That’s something we’ve got to get better at.

“At 2-0 up away from home in this division you have to see that game out.”

Barrett was asked whether he expects to remain at the club in some capacity.

“I honestly don’t know, I haven’t been told,” he said. “I don’t know what the situation is. All I was told was to prepare the team for the Leeds and Brentford games.

“The work behind the scenes and the application has been outstanding for the last two weeks. We’ve worked extremely hard and tried to prepare the team as best as we can. Everyone’s done that.

“We put ourselves in a great position today and should have seen it out and we haven’t, we’re bitterly disappointed with that.

“As far as moving forward I don’t know what the situation. I’ve been concentrating day-to-day making sure we’ve been preparing as best we can. That’s all I’ve been focused on.”
