AFC Wimbledon boss explains why defender was forced off in FA Cup replay win over Weymouth
Johnnie Jackson has explained why Jack Currie was forced off in the first half of AFC Wimbledon’s FA Cup first-round 3-1 replay win over National League South side Weymouth.
The left-back was replaced in the 27th minute by Huseyin Biler at Plough Lane on Tuesday evening.
Currie was named in the League Two Team of the Week for his performance away to Salford last Saturday.
The academy graduate made seven tackles, three interceptions and won four aerial battles. Currie also had the most touches of the football [62] of any Wimbledon player.
Currie has featured 19 times in all competitions under Jackson this season.
A second-half goal from Ayoub Assal and a double from Ethan Chislett saw Jackson’s side progress through to the next round.
“It was just precautionary,” said Jackson of Currie’s withdrawal.
“He took a whack to his ankle, and then something happened to his hamstring.
“We haven’t assessed it yet. I was in two minds about whether to play him tonight anyway, just because he has pretty much played every minute in every game.
“He’s a young lad who is in his first full season of league football. With Lee Brown being out injured, we’re obviously really light in that position.
“I was a bit concerned playing him tonight. Hopefully it’s nothing too serious and he will be alright for Saturday.”
