AFC Wimbledon defender set for video inquest with manager this week
Wimbledon manager Neal Ardley has promised defender Will Nightingale a video nasty at the club this week, writes Anthony Scales.
The 22-year-old caught the eye with a series of raking crossfield balls out of defence against Plymouth on Saturday but almost landed his side in hot water when he was caught trying to dribble out of his own area in the 30th minute.
The Dons academy graduate was saved by central defensive team-mate Darius Charles on that occasion, but the aberration didn’t escape his manager’s notice.
“That’s a mad moment that we’ll be showing Will on the video and saying ‘what are you doing there?’” said Ardley after his side’s 1-0 loss to Argyle.
“There’s a difference between stepping out of the back when the opposition’s doing a low press and having to step into
midfield and try to draw somebody out to find space – there’s a difference between that and dribbling in your own box when you’re under pressure and you need to clear your lines.”
