Afro hair guru and author Charlotte Mensah will appear in conversation at the Horniman
A guru of black British hairdressing is set to appear at a day of events at the Horniman Museum celebrating hair.
Three-time winner of Afro Hairdresser of the Year Charlotte Mensah will appear in conversation with cultural producer Korantema Anyimadu on Saturday, March 26.
Ms Mensah is the author of Good Hair: The essential guide to afro, textured and curly hair which is often described as the bible for black hair.
The event will follow a day of activities focussing on hair which are running alongside the Hair: Untold Stories exhibition.
The exhibition explores the meaning and importance of our hair, how we use it both on and off our heads.
On display are objects from the Horniman’s collection alongside artworks including a hair shop installation by Korantema Anyimadu.
Other events on the same day include a creative hair portrait workshop where children will make a self-portrait of their hair or the hair of someone they love using natural materials found in the Horniman Gardens, with artist and illustrator Habiba Nabisubi.
Designer Sanne Visser will also lead a demonstration on how to turn hair into ropes using ancient, traditional rope making techniques.
Charlotte Mensah in Conversation is from 6.30pm to 9pm on March 26.
