Andros Townsend sent to sign a new deal…but hints it isn’t at Crystal Palace

Andros Townsend has revealed he is close to signing for a club – and has hinted it’s not Crystal Palace.

The winger has scored 13 goals in 168 appearances for the Eagles since signingin 2016.

The 29-year-old is out of contract at Selhurst Park after his contract expired on July 1.

Townsend appeared on talkSPORT this morning, taking part in a Q&A about his future.

Asked whether he would be playing at a Premier League club north of the Watford Gap, he answered: “If it’s Premier League, probably.”

When asked if his next manager would be British, Townsend replied: “Not looking likely.”

The winger was then quizzed on if he would be playing in a red shirt next season, and responded: “Out of the options, no.”

The former Millwall loanee was then asked if the club he was close to signing for was one he had already played for and he replied: “Out of the options currently, no.”

Townsend has been with the Eagles for five years, but when he was questioned if he would have to move away from his current home to play for this club, he answered: “Possibly. It’s a yes, yeah.”

He added: “So I’m training somewhere this week. I’ve been given a final offer by a club with a deadline of ‘take-it-or-leave-it’ by the end of the week.

“So I’m pretty close now. Hopefully in the next week or so I’ll be signed and training somewhere full-time.”
