Arsenal youngster Daniel Ballard set to seal Millwall loan move tomorrow

Arsenal prospect Daniel Ballard is set to complete his loan move to Millwall tomorrow.

We reported first last week that the 21-year-old, capped five times by Northern Ireland, was being lined up for a temporary move to The Den.

And Ballard will become the Lions’ second signing of the close season. He is due to undergo a medical and wrap up his switch on Wednesday.

Blackpool had also been keen on a return after his successful loan spell in the last campaign but the young centre-back has opted for a fresh challenge in South London.

It will be Ballard’s third loan move of his career. He played 30 matches in all competitions for Blackpool last season as they won promotion to the Championship via the play-offs. Injury cut short his stay with Swindon Town before that.

Millwall have been keen to add another defensive option with George Evans set to play a holding midfield role. Although Alex Pearce has signed up for another 12 months he is not expected to be a regular starter.
