Herne Hill Harriers round-up: Club’s senior women the overall winners of 5K race

Herne Hill Harriers’ women were the overall winners of the Hercules Wimbledon 5K Team Road Race on Saturday – with their men second overall. Highgate Harriers won the men’s team race. With Belgrave Harriers second in the women’s event and Kent AC third in both women’s and men’s, Herne Hill became unofficial double county champions within the overall open race.

Women’s football: Charlton stunned by Coventry United fightback – as visitors score three times in five minutes

Charlton Athletic conceded three goals in five minutes as they lost 3-2 at home to Coventry United yesterday. The Addicks side should have been 1-0 up after 20 minutes when Ellie Dorey was put clean through on goal but instead of shooting she tried to cut it back to Charley Clifford, whose shot went wide.

Women’s football: Amy Taylor sent off as Palace lose 4-1 at Leicester City

Leicester City made it back-to-back FA Women’s Championship wins with a 4-1 victory over Crystal Palace at Hayes Lane on Sunday. Palace took an early lead through Cherelle Khassal but then had Amy Taylor sent off. Natasha Flint and Lachante Paul were able to score in between Remi Allen’s double to hand the spoils to the visitors. The hosts made the perfect start when Bianca Baptiste’s low cross made its way to Khassal, who slotted home after just four minutes.

Welling United lose three-goal lead to draw 4-4 at Slough Town

Whist Welling United might have considered a point would be acceptable before the game, the way they lost a three goal lead at Slough Town left them very disappointed. Having held a 4-1 lead and still being two goals ahead in injury time, coming away with a draw felt like a defeat. Reuben Duncan came in for his debut at the start of an initial one-month loan from Millwall and he looked composed and not fazed by the physical aspect of the game.

FIA Junior World Rally Championship contender Ruairi Bell endured a “rollercoaster of a rally” at the third round of the series, mixing encouraging pace with a devastating last stage retirement within sight of the finish line at last weekend’s Rally Italia Sardegna (8th- 10th October). The Blackheath driver set a string of top times behind the wheel of his M-Sport Fiesta Rally4, to run as high as third overall, coupled with second fastest stage times before a heavy impact with a straw bale ended his impressive run on Friday afternoon.
