Ben Thompson having injections in toe so he can feature for Millwall – Gary Rowett admits absences forcing tweaks in formation and tactics
BY RICHARD CAWLEY
Millwall are expected to be without Shane Ferguson (knee) for tonight’s match at Bristol City.
Shaun Hutchinson (rib) was on the bench for the Forest fixture but still has soreness.
Ben Thompson has needed injections in a toe injury to make himself available for selection.
“We’re getting through games and trying to put out as good a team as we can,” said Lions manager Rowett. “We’ve got a few walking wounded and it’s probably affected our chances occasionally to pick the team we want.
“We’ve got a good group and we’re not the type of club and staff to make excuses. We’ll do the best we can.
“We’ve had to be versatile and adaptable in terms of the teams we’ve picked and creative in some of the formations we’ve played. But that’s fine – we’ve been really competitive in all the games we’ve played. We have been unfortunate in some ways not to have more points due to the performances.
“We’ve done enough to win some of those games but just switched off at the wrong time.
“It’s frustrating sometimes when you have an idea how you want to play and someone doesn’t quite make it fitness wise. But that’s the Championship – I’ve been in it long enough.
“You have got to roll with the punches and be as competitive as you possibly can be.”
Millwall’s home FA Cup third round tie against Newport County will be a 12.31pm kick off on January 4.
