Bristol City 1 Millwall 2 – Jed Wallace and Jake Cooper on target as Lions keep motoring on the road
BY ROB STEWART
Talismanic winger Jed Wallace turned on the style to give Millwall a first win over high-flying Bristol City at Ashton Gate since 2010 by inspiring a shock 2-1 victory.
Wallace put Gary Rowett’s side on their way to victory in the 11th minute with a deft finish when he beat former Brentford keeper Daniel Bentley with a low 15-yard shot after neat play by Mahlon Romeo.
And he had a hand in the ultimately crucial blow by Jake Cooper when the centre-back headed in Wallace’s free-kick in the 69th minute r- ight in front of the delirious travelling fans in the Atyeo Stand.
Substitute Callum O’Dowda set up a nervy finale for the visitors when he smacked in a shot from 12 yards but Millwall held firm with skipper Cooper leading by example.
The late rearguard action ensured City suffered a home defeat for the first time since August and extended Millwall’s unbeaten run to six games.
