Brockley music and arts-based holiday club for kids opens doors

By Davina Hyde

An after-school club has opened its doors to cooped-up kids this summer.

Strings Club, a popular music and arts-based holiday camp, last week welcomed kids at Prendergast School in Brockley.

Entrepreneur mum Amy Cunningham set up Strings club in 2012 with just six children. Now she caters for 30,000 children at the Ofsted-registered holiday camps.

Amy said: “People are desperate for childcare, parents are their wits’ end. It is a feat that parents have been able to work.”

Amy said: “When Covid happened it was a sink or swim moment. I got everything online.

“I trialled an online holiday camp, but most people wanted it to run face-to-face.

“We sold out in two hours our first bubble for our Brockley camp. We are creating a bubble of 15 children for the week, along government guidelines.

“A lot of holiday clubs are not running this summer because a lot of venues are saying no, but I have got my risk assessment done and Covid-19 policies in place.”

Amy has arranged for there to be a sanitisation station in each room, and an online training session for her team members.

Her Brockley holiday camp is running now for children aged between four and 11, for four weeks.
