Burton Albion boss Hasselbaink keen on Charlton Athletic boss job
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is keen on becoming Charlton Athletic’s next manager.
The South London Press was told a couple of weeks ago that the Burton Albion boss, 48, was confident he was a strong contender for the Valley post.
Hasselbaink had a spell with Charlton towards the end of his playing career. He arrived on a free transfer from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2006 and scored four goals in 29 matches before being released at the end of that season.
The former Dutch international has won one promotion as a boss – from League Two with Burton in the 2014-15 season. He has also managed at Royal Antwerp, QPR and Northampton Town.
The South London Press asked Charlton owner Thomas Sandgaard last week about the rumours of Hasselbaink being in the mix to succeed Nigel Adkins.
The US-based Dane told our publication last week that more than 100 applications had been received.
“Obviously he has been on the list [of potential candidates] but we’ve not had any talks with Jimmy,” said Sandgaard last Wednesday. “Despite the loss [to Charlton], he is obviously doing a good job. Good for him.”
Caretaker Charlton manager Johnnie Jackson has taken 13 points from 15 since replacing Adkins.

If Sandgaard does not give the job to Jackson, he will be undoing all the good work that has gone on since he took ownership of the Club and the backlash from fans would not be very good at all. Unless Jackson, for some reason does not want the job, it is the easiest task for Sandgaard to make his appointment permanent. A no brainer as they say,
Surely the Charlton owner cannot be serious in thinking about Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink as the next manager going down the same route as appointing Nigel Adkins . Give Johnny Jackson the season he is doing a great job with a weakened squad .
Come on. 4 wins and a draw out of 5 – 13 points. Please Mr Sandgaard, look no further than Johnnie. What else has he got to do? Charlton through and through, respected by the fans and his players. He’s worked marvels with the depressed lifeless bunch they were under Adkins – chalk and cheese.
