Cardiff City 1 Millwall 1 – Jed Wallace wondergoal earns point in Wales

BY GRAHAM THOMAS

Jed Wallace scored his second wonder goal in Wales this season to give Millwall a deserved point at mid-table rivals Cardiff.

The classy midfielder curled home a brilliant 25-yard free-kick just past the hour mark to cancel out an opener for Cardiff scored four minutes earlier.

Poor marking at a corner by Millwall enabled Aden Flint to score from Marlon Pack’s flick on after the home side had raised the tempo following a forgettable first half.

But the Lions responded and when Shaun Williams was fouled, Wallace beat goalkeeper Neil Etheridge with a stunning strike that was reminiscent of his match-winner at Swansea last month.

Millwall were unable to create any further clear-cut openings, but held firm for a point which keeps both clubs in the middle bunch of the Championship, four points adrift of the play-offs.

Gary Rowett’s side only managed one shot on target in a low quality first-half, but they did have a reasonable appeal for a penalty turned down.

Shortly after Wallace’s shot was comfortably saved by Etheridge, Lions striker Tom Bradshaw was sent sprawling under a challenge from Curtis Nelson but referee David Webb was unmoved.
