Professor leading Covid-19 vaccine response at St George’s University in Tooting answers questions about getting the jab

Having a vaccine to protect against coronavirus will be just like getting a flu or tetanus booster vaccine, says the professor leading the team trialling the new vaccines at St George’s University in Tooting. Professor Paul Heath heads up the university’s vaccine institute and has praised the positive results of recent trials of the Oxford, Pfizer and Moderna vaccines as “fantastic news.”

Covid-19 patients needed to donate blood plasma

NHS Blood and Transplant has opened the doors of its new plasma donation centre at the Centrale Shopping Centre, and has issued an urgent call to anyone who has had Covid-19 to register as a donor. Plasma collected at the centre will be used in clinical trials to determine whether the antibody-rich blood plasma found in people who have had coronavirus – known as convalescent plasma – could be an effective treatment for Covid-19.

Number of St George’s coronavirus patients remains steady during second wave

In the latest update from the Trust this week there were 17 coronavirus patients being cared for in intensive care and a further 30 coronavirus patients being cared for on the wards. Last week there were 12 Covid-19 positive patients being cared for in intensive care and a further 34 Covid-19 positive patients cared for on the wards.
