Prominent speakers to give talks at Dulwich College during Black History Month

One of London’s oldest schools will be marking Black History Month with a string of talks by community leaders and pioneers. Dulwich College will be ‘Adding to History’ with talks and academic events with guest speakers including Mani Arthur, founder of the Black Cyclists Network, South London grime artist Afrikan Boy, and opera singer Rodney Earl Clarke.

Kitchen assistant on road to her dream of becoming a hotel manager

A kitchen assistant has reached a landmark in her ambition to one day study at university and become a hotel manager – by getting two crucial qualifications. Ugandan-born Aida Nakabugo, 56, from Woolwich, decided two years ago to take her GCSE maths and English exams – and has now bagged passes in both subjects by studying at London South East Colleges’ Greenwich Campus.

Lewisham youth panel to advise police has met for the first time

The first youth panel in Lewisham to advise police on issues that matter to their peers has met for the first time. The Met’s first south east Independent Youth Advisory Group (YIAG) panel met including young people from Greenwich, Lewisham, and Bexley boroughs on Monday, 28 September to advise local officers about policing and social issues.

Kids will be sent home from school on “daily, if not weekly basis” with coronavirus symptoms, says Hammersmith and Fulham council’s education chief

It is likely to become normal to have a handful of pupils sent home after testing positive for coronavirus, according to a west London council’s education head. Jan Parnell said one Year 10 child and three primary school pupils had recently tested positive at Hammersmith and Fulham schools.
