Charlton Athletic boss makes Peterborough United claim ahead of Valley clash tomorrow

Nigel Adkins is confident that Charlton are facing a Peterborough side that will definitely be in the Championship next season.

The Posh head to SE7 with a five-point lead over third-placed Sunderland. Darren Ferguson’s side lost 1-0 at home to Peterborough in midweek.

And Adkins reckons that the automatic promotion chase is over, with just a question over whether Peterborough can catch his former club Hull City.

“We concentrate on ourselves but I’ve got total respect for Darren, I’ve played against his teams many times,” said the Addicks manager. “I went to watch them the other day, against Sunderland. They are a good side.

“They have got many really good attributes and that’s why they are going to get promoted. They have got some real good goal threats. They play football in a good manner. They pass it, they are a very good possession-based football side with a lot of flair and excitement.

“They are going to go up in the top two – Peterborough and Hull. We have got to be bang on it. We need to be mindful of the strengths and threats that Peterborough have got but likewise we’re trying to strive as much as we can to impose what we want on the game.

“Peterborough have got the capability of changing their formation around during the course of the game as well. Darren has done a great job there. Them and Hull will be worthy of getting themselves automatically promoted.”
