Charlton Athletic are close to a deal for Rotherham full-back Ben Purrington.

The South London Press understands that a move for the defender – who scored the Addicks’ first goal in their win at Wembley – could be completed so that he can train with the newly-promoted Championship outfit in Malaga.

Charlton are in Spain on a training camp and manager Lee Bowyer said yesterday that he was hopeful that at least one – and possibly two – transfers could be struck while they were out there.

Purrington, 23, played 44 matches in League One last season and cut short a loan spell with AFC Wimbledon to link up with Charlton in January.

The Addicks only lost twice in the second half of the campaign when he played.

If Purrington finalises his switch then he will become Charlton’s fourth addition of the summer.
