Charlton Athletic have finally been cleared to sign Tomer Hemed – with the Brighton & Hove Albion striker their 14th addition since winning promotion.

The Addicks did a deal for Erhun Oztumer last week after he was granted permission by the EFL to leave Bolton on a free transfer.

Israeli international striker Hemed, 32, had been a deadline day move by Charlton as they sailed right up to the 5pm cut-off.

But the EFL have now sanctioned the deal. Hemed has joined on a one-year contract. He reached an agreement to cancel the final 12 months of his Brighton deal.

He has scored 33 goals in 108 appearances for Brighton and also had successful spells with RCD Mallorca, Maccabi Haifa and UD Almeria.

Hemed played 100 La Liga games and netted 27 times.

His game time since Brighton got promoted has been limited, scoring twice in 16 outings in the Premier League.

He scored seven goals in 29 matches for QPR last season.

Hemed will train with Charlton tomorrow and is eligible for selection for tomorrow’s night’s match against Forest.

Charlton boss Lee Bowyer told the club’s website: “I’m really pleased we’ve been able to get this deal done. Signing Tomer gives us another option up front, something different to what we already have. I’m looking forward to working with him. I’d like to thank Dan Ashworth and Brighton & Hove Albion for the part they’ve played in getting this deal done.”

Brighton head coach Graham Potter said: “At this stage in his career Tomer wants to play regular football and at Charlton he has the opportunity to do that.

“There’s no doubt he’s been a great player for this club. He played an integral part in winning promotion from the Championship, and scored some crucial goals in the Premier League.

“During the short time I’ve been here, he’s been a fantastic professional. On behalf of the club I’d like to thank him for his service and wish him all the very best for his time with Charlton and his future career.”

  • Methinks a good signing, bringing invaluable Championship experience to CAFC. Hope he gets along with Lyle Taylor and they can form a good and productive partnership. Howe er, it seems that Lee Bowyer may use him as a different type of striker, but whatever happens, it is another much needed option up front for The Addicks. Well done Lee and staff !!
