Charlton Athletic fans’ favourite could get taste of U23 action next week

Charlton Athletic midfielder Jake Forster-Caskey could be set for U23 action next week as he closes in on a return from his second ACL injury.

The 27-year-old was voted the club’s Player of the Year in the 2020-21 campaign and suffered the setback in the penultimate fixture of the campaign against Lincoln City.

Forster-Caskey had been due to be out of contract last July but the Addicks offered him a 12-month contract extension, with the option of a further year.

Charlton have undoubtedly missed the former England U21 international’s craft and control in the middle of the park.

“Jake is back in full training,” Addicks boss Johnnie Jackson told the South London Press. “Hopefully we’ll look to get him some minutes in the U23s next week and build him up. He’s been training well.

“He has been full contact, he’s back in amongst it.

“It will be great for the lad to get back playing, but also he’s a good player – if we get him back to where he was. Will that happen before the end of the season? Probably unlikely. But it will be great for him to get some games, just to have that confidence to know he’s fit and he’s firing – ready to go for the following season.”
