Charlton Athletic have attacker back for Plymouth Argyle match

Paul Smyth will be back in Charlton’s squad for their Boxing Day game at home to Plymouth Argyle.

The on-loan QPR attacker has been missing since he suffered a gash to his leg in the 2-0 victory at Ipswich Town.

“They had to re-open the stitches and clean it out – there was a concern it might have got infected,” said Addicks manager Lee Bowyer. “The doc and our surgeon opened it up and cleaned it all out and started again. That set us back a bit.

“But he’s outside training again now.”

Midfielder Albie Morgan will also be available after completing his period of self-isolation following a positive Covid-19 result.

“Nothing else is going to change for us in terms of other players being available,” said Bowyer. “Shinnie is due to be the next one back in maybe 10 days or so.”
