Charlton Athletic midfielder Alex Gilbey reveals he is struggling with Covid-19

Charlton Athletic midfielder Alex Gilbey has revealed he has contracted Covid-19.

The 26-year-old has yet to feature for the Addicks in pre-season.

And Gilbey posted on his social media: “This covid is no joke. I have never been so ill in my whole life. Please stay safe people. It really isn’t nice.”

Charlton manager Nigel Adkins is also self-isolating after testing postive for the virus. Assistant boss Johnnie Jackson took charge for their friendly win at Darford at the weekend.

Adkins posted his own message on the same social media platform this morning: ‘[It’s] like a big bout of the flu really, that’s how I’d describe it. Thank you for everyone who sent some get-well messages.

“I’m not at the training ground. Johnnie Jackson, Jason Euell, Danny Murphy and the rest of the team have been working so hard together. So thankful I’m associated with some really good people. They will be getting on with training today, we’ll be having a meeting.”
