Charlton Athletic recall defender from National League loan

Lucas Ness has been recalled from his loan spell with Torquay United.

The Charlton Athletic defender joined the National League club at the end of October and made seven appearances.

The Addicks have seen their defensive options diminished in recent weeks with Eoghan O’Connell (knee), Terell Thomas (hamstring) and Mandela

Egbo (quad) all sidelined. Fulham loanee Steven Sessegnon also came off in the second half of Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Stockport County in the FA Cup.

Ness, 20, has played six first-team games for the Addicks and featured in two EFL Trophy matches this season as well as the full 90 minutes at left-back in the EFL Cup second round victory at Walsall in August.

Charlton are winless in their last five matches and host Cheltenham Town tonight.

The 3-0 victory over Portsmouth on October 17 is their last three-point haul. They are six points behind sixth-placed Barnsley and have played a fixture more.

Yann Kermorgant, Sasa Ilic and Radostin Kishishev will be guests at the match as part of the celebrations to mark 30 years back at The Valley.

The trio, who are all jetting in from overseas, will be joined at the game by some of the stars that played for Charlton against Portsmouth on that historic day in December 1992 – including goalscorer Colin Walsh.

The class of 1992 – including chairman Roger Alwen, joint-managers Alan Curbishley and Steve Gritt, and players Bob Bolder, Garry Nelson and Scott Minto are set to lead the teams out ahead of kick-off.
