Charlton Athletic set for significant sum if Burnley sell £40m-rated keeper Nick Pope
Charlton Athletic are set for a major cash windfall if Nick Pope leaves Burnley.
The Clarets’ six-season stay in the Premier League came to an end yesterday as they lost 2-1 at home to Newcastle United. The result confirmed they would join Norwich City and Watford in the Championship next season.
Charlton negotiated a sell-on percentage when they sold Pope to Burnley in July 2016.
The England-capped stopper has been linked with West Ham United and Fulham. A report today claimed that Burnley would demand £40million for one of their star performers.
Charlton signed Pope from Bury Town in July 2011 but he left when the SE7 outfit were relegated to League One.
He has gone on to make 155 appearances for Burnley.
Charlton will also profit if Colchester’s Brendan Wiredu moves in the summer transfer window.
Again the Addicks inserted a sell-on clause when they allowed the 22-year-old to leave in February 2021.
Sheffield Wednesday are being linked with Wiredu.

What do we actually know? Burnley are relegated. Charlton have a sell on clause.
Will Nick Pope move? No idea
What might he be worth if he does? Pure speculation
What might the sell on clause be worth? Guesswork, let’s not forget that clause was negotiated by Duchatelet’s notoriously inept regime.
Not much of a story is it?
