Charlton Athletic suffer fresh injury setback – with defender set to miss Fulham match
BY RICHARD CAWLEY
Lee Bowyer revealed that Ben Purrington is likely to miss Charlton’s derby at Fulham on Saturday after coming off in tonight’s 2-1 loss to Swansea City with a groin complaint.
The right-back has been playing on with a calf issue but it was a different muscle niggle that forced him off at The Valley on Wednesday night.
Purrington’s exit saw the Addicks switch their formation to a 3-5-2 with Sam Field dropping into the defence to play on the left of a back three.
Bowyer said: “We all know he has been playing with a bit of a dodgy calf. He came off feeling his groin a bit. He is carrying an injury. I think he is definitely going to struggle [for the Fulham match], he hasn’t got any time to get better, has he? I think he’ll be out for Saturday.”
