Charlton Athletic the only London club left in the EFL Cup
Charlton Athletic are the only London club left in the EFL Cup after the third round of matches were completed on Wednesday.
The Addicks sealed their place in tonight’s fourth round draw with a 5-4 penalty win at Stevenage after the match ended 1-1 after normal time.
Charlton were heading out until substitute Chuks Aneke’s 87th-minute equaliser at the Lamex Stadium.
Manager Ben Garner had said one of the ties he would like to happen next was a South London derby against his old club Crystal Palace.
But the Eagles lost 3-2 on spot-kicks to Newcastle United last night after the tie finished 0-0.

Arsenal were also dumped out, 3-1 at home to Brighton, Nottingham Forest defeated Tottenham 2-0 at the City Ground while Chelsea were beaten 2-0 at Manchester City.
And to make it a miserable Wednesday evening for the capital clubs, West Ham United went out 10-9 on penalties to Blackburn.
Neil Harris’s Gillingham produced one of the upsets of the round the night before as the League Two outfit also prevailed on spot-kicks after their tie against Brentford ended 1-1.
