Charlton Athletic v Leeds United: First Championship start for Bonne as Hemed misses out

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Macauley Bonne makes his first Championship start for Charlton – with Tomer Hemed ruled out due to injury.

Top-scorer Lyle Taylor is missing with knee ligament damage and former Brighton striker Hemed’s absence depletes their frontline options even further.

It means that Bonne, signed for £200,000 from Leyton Orient in the summer, gets a shot against league leaders Leeds United. He has played just 34 minutes of Championship football this season.

Charlton have failed to score in their last two matches – slipping to defeats against Wigan and Birmingham.

Club captain Jason Pearce is once again a substitute. It means the centre-back, who had been troubled by a tight groin, once against doesn’t start against one of his former clubs.

Charlton: Phillips, Solly, Lockyer, Sarr, Purrington, Pratley, Cullen, Gallagher, Williams, Leko, Bonne. Subs: Amos, Oshilaja, Pearce, Field, Aneke, Oztumer, Forster-Caskey.

Leeds United: Casilla, White, Cooper, Shackleton, Harrison, Phillips, Klich, Dallas, Costa, Alioski, Bamford. Subs: Miazek, Douglas, Forshaw, Roberts, Nketiah, Berardi, Clarke.
