‘Charlton fatigued and we were ruthless in front of goal’ – Bolton manager Evatt on his side’s 4-1 win at Valley
Bolton manager Ian Evatt was disappointed that Charlton were able to score an early goal in last night’s match at The Valley – even if his side’s clinical finishing saw them run out 4-1 victors.
Josh Davison gave the Addicks the lead before a brace from Kieran Lee, and goals from Oladapo Afolayan and Antoni Sarcevic made the scoreline a flattering one for Wanderers.
Evatt said: “We had spoken about not conceding an early goal and giving Charlton some confidence. It’s a team that’s low on confidence at the moment and we didn’t want to give anyone, including their supporters, a lift.
“That being us, we did exactly the opposite, and conceding the early goal gave them a lift. But once we worked out where the space was, and moved the ball with more speed and tempo, we started causing them problems.
“Dapo’s got the goal at a great time for us. Then in the second half, we raised the tempo, raised the intensity, with and without the ball. Teams struggle to press the ball against us for 90 minutes, you physically can’t do it, no matter who you are. I thought Charlton fatigued and then we were just clinical and ruthless in front of goal.
“We could’ve easily had that same scoreline on Saturday, but we just missed too many opportunities.”
