Charlton set to push through permanent deal for Danish striker in January window

Ronnie Schwartz looks set to finally complete his move to Charlton Athletic when the transfer window opens next month.

The FC Midtjylland striker, pictured left, was in the Valley directors’ box for Saturday’s 5-2 derby win over AFC Wimbledon.

Schwartz, 31, had been a top target for the Addicks in the last transfer window – even heading to the UK before the deadline to complete a medical and agree personal terms.

But the switch did not go through before the cut-off point due to personal reasons.

Schwartz has not featured for Midtjylland this season – they have opted to exclude him after he rejected a contract extension.

The Dane was sat a couple of seats away from his compatriot Thomas Sandgaard last weekend with the Charlton owner determined to add the frontman to Lee Bowyer’s squad.

Schwartz scored 14 goals in 25 Superligaen appearances last season for Midtjylland, who are also owned by Brentford supremo Matthew Benham. He plundered 40 goals in 50 matches for Silkeborg and netted 40 times in 88 outings for Randers.

Charlton definitely need more fire power upfront, with Bogle only scoring once, Washington has not done too badly, but hardly prolific and Aneke who is more like a ‘super sub’. He does seem to come on and upset defences, but, sadly, does not appear to be able to do it for the whole game. If Schwartz does sign, then he may add that extra cutting edge. However, not wishing to be too pessimistic, but he does not appear to have played much first team football this season and how do his former clubs compare to League 1 ? Yes, he could be a surprise package, but I don’t think we can expect him to walk straight into the team and score a shed load of goals. He is clearly going to have to be brought up to speed re fitness and this can take a while, as we have found with other players that have joined Charlton this season. Fingers crossed it will not take too long and we will see what he can do sooner rather than later !!
