Charlton target told his lack of football at Forest is “not ideal”

Republic of Ireland manager Stephen Kenny says that Harry Arter’s lack of football at Forest is “not ideal” – with the experienced midfielder set to join Charlton Athletic.

The news broke earlier today that the former AFC Bournemouth, Fulham and Cardiff player is set for a season-long loan stay in SE7.

Arter began his career with the South London club, coming through their youth ranks, and made one senior appearance before being released in 2009.

Kenny has named Arter in his squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Azerbaijan, Portugal and Serbia.

“At least three players could move clubs this week,” said Kenny. “That will be a factor [in picking his team].

“Harry Arter has been playing U23s for Nottingham Forest. It is not ideal.”

Arter has not played a minute of football for the Championship side this season. He last made Forest’s matchday squad on February 1, as an 88th-minute substitute in a 1-0 win at Preston.

He played 13 times in the Championship in the 2020-21 campaign, eight of those starts.
