Charlton winger reveals message behind shared goal celebration with Crystal Palace loanee

Charlton Athletic winger Tyreece Campbell has explained his goal celebration with Jesurun Rak-Sakyi.

Both players got on the scoresheet in Saturday’s 3-2 win over Port Vale.

Rak-Sakyi, on loan from Crystal Palace, won the two top accolades at Charlton’s awards night on Sunday – walking away with the Player of the Year awards from both the fans and also his fellow pros.

“It’s a ‘t’ for time will tell,” Peckham-raised Campbell told the South London Press. “It’s (saying that) everyone’s time will come, so you just have to be patient.”

“I’ve known Jes before he came to Charlton, it’s been helpful for me. In training he has helped me be confident, even before my first game. He helped me be myself in the changing room.

“He’s a good player and we have a good link up with him. I’ll miss not playing with him (if Rak-Sakyi does not return for another spell in SE7).

“I feel like the more games I’ve played the more confident I’ve become. Hopefully I’ve done enough to show I’m ready to play men’s football next season.

“He (Dean Holden, manager) put a lot of belief in me and has been very helpful after training, doing extras with him. Even before games he is always speaking to me and making me feel confident to express myself on the pitch.”

Charlton moved into 10th spot after seeing off Vale in their final home match of the 2022-23 League One campaign.

“It was a good way to finish the season, with a win,” said Campbell. “Last week (a 3-2 home loss to Morecambe) wasn’t good enough.

“We just want to make the fans happy and we did that today.”
