Christmas single released by siblings to raise money for charity
A singer has released a charity single with her brother to raise money for those going without food and family this Christmas.
Gretchin and Joseph Hamberger decided to release ‘Don’t feel like Christmas’ after writing the song two years ago when their dad was in hospital and they weren’t sure if he’d be home for Christmas.
Gretchin said: “We have all experienced such loneliness this year and been kept from our loved ones. I think we can all relate to it not feeling quite like Christmas.
“I hope that people can listen, take comfort in the song and just know they aren’t alone in their feelings while also helping two amazing charities.”
The proceeds from the single will be split between Compliments of The House, a food redistribution charity in Brixton, and b:friend, a charity combatting loneliness in the elderly community.
Sinéad Browne, chief executive and founder of Compliments of The House, said: “People stockpiling and limits being placed on the number of items they could purchase from supermarkets meant that people just weren’t donating food.
“Charity donations went down because people on furlough didn’t have that supplementary income to donate, and they feared losing their jobs.
“It meant that we had to fundraise and try to source donations from corporations to buy food in bulk because donations from the public just weren’t there.
“We had to purchase a lot of food ourselves. None of us are paid and we didn’t have much money in the bank so I’ve been using my savings to buy food.”
Compliments of The House are offering a Christmas hamper to top up people’s supplies over the Christmas period as many food banks are stretched thin this year.
Sinéad said: “Knowing there’s a community behind us who value the work we do and support those who we support is what makes everything I do worthwhile.
“Being a volunteer-led organisation where nobody is paid, when people come and volunteer or fundraise for us and help lighten the load, their input and donations are so very much appreciated.”
