Community Shop West Norwood helps families with Free School Meals vouchers double food shop

A community food shop has announced that they will be accepting Free School Meals (FSM) vouchers.

The Community Shop West Norwood on Vale Street in Gipsy Hill sells food from household brands at an average of half the price.

This means that families with the FSM voucher will be able to stretch it twice as far.

Steph McGinty, Deputy Managing Director of Company Shop Group, said: “It is essential that children and families have access to high-quality, affordable food during school closures, through such challenging times.

“By using their voucher in store at Community Shop, families will be able to almost double the amount of food and essential products that they would typically be able to purchase, which helps to stretch family budgets even further.

“We would really encourage any families in receipt of the vouchers to consider using them at their local Community Shop store.”

The Community Shop also encourages families using FSM vouchers to sign up for membership, which is completely free and lasts a lifetime.

The supermarket is a social enterprise that aims to help people on benefits by selling cheap, healthy food.

All the food sold is in date, but has been rejected by supermarkets for superficial reasons, for example if the packaging has been damaged.
