Conor Washington the most notable name in Charlton Athletic’s released list

Charlton have confirmed that Conor Washington will not be offered a new contract.

The Northern Ireland international is a free agent this summer and was their second highest goalscorer last season with 11 goals.

Johnnie Jackson had been keen to secure Washington on new terms but his departure at the start of last week cast extra doubt on his future.

There had already been talk that Charlton’s hierarchy were torn on whether to try and extend Washington’s stay as they considered making a managerial change.

The 29-year-old signed for the Addicks in August 2020 from Hearts and netted 22 goals in 56 League One starts.

Washington’s last goal for Charlton came in the 2-0 win at Cambridge United on April 19.

He played 75 minutes of the 4-0 loss to Ipswich Town on April 30 in the final fixture of the campaign.

Adam Matthews, Chris Gunter, Ben Watson, Pape Souare and Stephen Henderson will also be leaving when their terms expire.

Loanees Akin Famewo (Norwich), Nile John (Tottenham), Elliot Lee (Luton), Jonathan Leko (Birmingham), Juan Castillo (Chelsea) and Mason Burstow (Chelsea) have all returned to their parent clubs.
