Crystal Palace chief can’t provide return date for former Liverpool and Aston Villa man
BY SAM SMITH
Roy Hodgson has ruled Christian Benteke out of Crystal Palace’s trip to Huddersfield Town on Saturday – and says the club are yet to decide when the striker should return.
The Belgian – who has scored just three times since the beginning of last season – has been struggling with a knee injury since pre-season which forced him to sit out of three of the Eagles’ five friendlies.
Hodgson said: “Christian has a niggly knee injury which he has had for some while. He felt he had to have some time out of training when we went to Sweden [during pre-season].
“I’m afraid that is still an ongoing issue that is being dealt with so at the moment he won’t be available for Saturday – and we will have to wait and see when he will be available for.
“There is no timescale on that injury at the moment.”
