Crystal Palace are interested in Brentford attacker Ollie Watkins.
The 23-year-old, who can play in an advanced attacking midfield role or in the frontline, has been linked with the Eagles, Premier League new boys Sheffield United and Southampton.
Palace are admirers of Watkins, who could cost in the region of £15million – a huge hike on the £1.8m that the Bees paid Exeter City in the summer of 2017.
Torbay-born Watkins scored 10 goals in 45 appearances last season – also collecting nine assists.
In total he has featured 93 times for Brentford and scored 23 times.
His contract with the west London club runs until the summer of 2021 but there is also an option of a year’s extension.
Palace’s spending in this summer’s window is not expected to be big – unless they part company with either Aaron Wan-Bissaka or Wilfried Zaha, their two prize assets.
But the underlying message coming out of the Eagles camp is they will not let the pair leave for anything other than top dollar, hugely limiting the clubs able to afford them.
