Dons boss as “devastated” as fans as his side throw away 4-2 lead against Plymouth

BY DANIEL MARSH

AFC Wimbledon boss Glyn Hodges was left searching for the positives following his side’s enthralling 4-4 draw with Plymouth Argyle.
The Dons fell behind twice in the first half, only to mount a stunning fightback after the interval, scoring a trio of goals to lead 4-2. Despite seeming to have wrapped the game up, Plymouth fought back to secure a share of the points.
Discussing proceedings after the match, Hodges shared that he was as “devastated” as Wimbledon fans would be after losing their two goal lead.
“Well they [the fans] are probably feeling like me at the moment – devastated at losing that two-goal lead. But I think once it settles down and you analyse it, which we will be doing, we’ll take the positives as we always do and learn from and keep working on our mistakes.”
When asked where he thought his side’s game plan went wrong, Hodges pulled no punches.
“Right from the first whistle,” he said.
“We set out to do things. We set out the way we play, we know what’s expected of everybody and it just didn’t happen. The first 15 minutes I couldn’t put my finger on it. It was just everything – it wasn’t there for some reason. You get them days.

“There’s a game plan, we defend all the time and we work on defending. It’s just that things went out the window today, things that we normally do. There’s fundamentals in our play – even attacking play – that we didn’t do today. It was a crazy day for the way we played.
“To be fair, to come back from the poor first half to get four goals and get to 4-2 up is credit to the boys – although we weren’t at it. So, we could have got a win when we weren’t at it. We’re disappointed with not all three [points], but four goals and we’ll take a point. But, I think at our best today, we get all three.”
