Dons striker Ollie Palmer to sleep outside Plough Lane to highlight plight of London’s homeless
AFC Wimbledon striker Ollie Palmer will be sleeping outside Plough Lane on Saturday night to raise awareness for London’s homeless in the run-up to Christmas.
Along with chief executive Joe Palmer, Dons Trust co-chair Xavier Wiggins and first team defender Darius Charles, Palmer is aiming to raise £20,000 for those who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness, across Wandsworth, Merton and Kingston.
Speaking to the South London Press ahead of Saturday’s ‘Big Sleep Out’, Palmer said: “It’s a really important event that the club has amazingly put on. It’s to show and represent the homeless people in and around London and especially this area of Wimbledon.
“It’s a festive time of the year, but not everybody gets to enjoy it and have the home comforts and the warmth that we all fortunately get.
“We’re going to be out here in the freezing cold. I’m not looking forward to it at all, but it’s all for a good cause and hopefully as many people can raise as many funds as possible, including myself.
“Donate. It’s going to a good cause, it’s for a good thing, and 100 per cent of the proceeds will be going to homeless people to give them shelter over Christmas.”
